Oscarsakademin stänger av Will Smith i tio år

Vi skrev tidigare idag om att världsfenomenet Will Smith befarade det värsta när det kom till dagens cancelkultur och efter det senaste beskedet från Oscarsakademin kan de farhågorna besannas. Efter att Will Smith klappade till Chris Rock under den senaste filmgalan har nu akademin beslutat att stänga av stjärnan från kommande filmgalor - i tio år. Så här uttalade sig styrelsen om saken:

"The 94th Oscars were meant to be a celebration of the many individuals in our community who did incredible work this past year; however, those moments were overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behavior we saw Mr. Smith exhibit on stage.

During our telecast, we did not adequately address the situation in the room. For this, we are sorry. This was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, viewers and our Academy family around the world, and we fell short — unprepared for the unprecedented."

Man passade även på att hylla Chris Rocks professionalitet under sändningen:

"We want to express our deep gratitude to Mr. Rock for maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances. We also want to thank our hosts, nominees, presenters and winners for their poise and grace during our telecast."

Förutom detta har Will Smiths kommande filmprojekt pausats på obestämd tid och Smith kommer alltså inte att kunna sätta foten i Oscarsgalan förrän 2032. Så kan det gå. Låter detta som ett passande straff för Smith?
